What is the Canadian Dental Care Program (CDCP)?
The Canadian Dental Care Program (CDCP) is a government plan to help Canadians get dental care, particularly for those who have financial restraints. Launched by the federal government, the CDCP aims to cover dental costs for low—and middle—income families without private dental insurance.
Important Information About CDCP Payments
Under the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), you do not need to pay upfront for the portion of your claim that is covered. Reimbursement from Sun Life will not be possible if you pay in advance.
✅ You are only responsible for:
- Any outstanding balance (the difference between the provider’s fees and the amount covered by CDCP, including any co-payment if applicable).
- Any services that are not covered under the CDCP.
This ensures a smoother process and helps you avoid unnecessary out-of-pocket expenses.
Do you Qualify?
- Individuals must not have dental insurance and have an annual adjusted family net income below $90,000.
- Canadian tax residency and filing taxes in the previous year are prerequisites.
Cost Coverage & Adjusted Family Net Income
- The CDCP reimburses a percentage of eligible expenses, with co-payment based on adjusted family net income.
- Coverage ranges from 100% for incomes under $70,000 to 40% for incomes between $80,000 and $89,999.
What Services are Covered?
Covered services include preventive, diagnostic, restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, periodontal, and oral surgery services.
